Description

The link simply takes you to the module, but not necessarily to the correct screen:
e.g. a new calendar event in jan 10: clicking the link shows the current month (where in this test there's nothing): this is illogical to the user.
If possible the what's new link should take you to a screen where the new item is clearly marked out.
E.g.: a new document in a long list of documents is difficult to spot...

This is easy as long as there is only one new item, but with several new items we would need either a common link, or we would need an icon for each and every changed item which would basically screw up the links

True, but not insurmountable: one link per type is enough if all new items are clearly marked and shown in the suitable view type (e.g. list view for calendar events)
Suggestion: as long as an item is not opened it remains 'new', compare to 'read/unread' in mail; we also need the possibility then to mark (all/ all selected) items 'read'. In this way 'what's new' will give a far better picture than it does now

There is already a what's new icon on the courses application (see screenshot of announcements)

The original remarks still largely hold true: eg., in a list of documents in a course, the new document is not marked out; the remark about the calendar event still holds true, ....
