Description

The "category" dropdown in the publication form contains all the categories, not only the ones where the user has add-rights (wich is confusing)

Marking this a high priority. It's not only confusing but potentialy dangerous as well.

actually I don't think it is that dangerous as you can't actually publish in the categories. that bug was already fixed: you get a "you are not allowed to publish here" message. But if there are a lot of categories and you can only publish in one it might be a pretty big pita to try the different categories and get that message a few times.

Sounds like "someone" wanted to economize on rights checks then. If I were the end-user I would not only find it confusing, but excessively annoying as well.
Additionaly if after checking rights and whatnot only one category remains as a possibility, I think the selection box shouldn't be shown (already the case, sometimes) but there should be an indication of where the object is being published. (as that would not necessarily be in the root of the tool)

You are correct that this is a usability issue. However checking for rights on each available category will slow the system down extremely...

trying out each category and getting the non-allowed error also slows everything down and will cause much frustration.

maybe we can make publishng to the "current" category (the one you were in when you clicked "publish") the default action and display other categories (and check the rights) only when a user explicitly wants this (with ajax, not on a different page)
