It is an interesting feature, unfortunately some voices have low quality.
http://text-to-speech.imtranslator.net/speech.asp voices are better, but service is free only for 1000 characters and I don't know if it is embeddable so easily.

In particular it is'nt possible to save mp3...
It is only possible to link to generated translation as http://tts.imtranslator.net/E34O

There exists a code for webmasters:

A button:
<script type="text/javascript">var dir='en';</script>
<script type="text/javascript" src= "http://text-to-speech.imtranslator.net/TTS/floater.js">
</script>
<noscript><a href="http://www.imtranslator.com/" target="_blank">ImTranslator.com</a></noscript>

a frame:
<script type="text/javascript">var dir='en';</script>
<script type="text/javascript" src= "http://text-to-speech.imtranslator.net/TTS/iframe.js">
</script>
<noscript><a href="http://www.imtranslator.com/" target="_blank">ImTranslator.com</a></noscript>

OK, it would be good to be able to convert full documents as well (currently we can only write text to be converted).

I'm considering this task closed for 1.8.8. I have tested it and it works fine (the interface can still be widely improved, visually).

Good job!

I know this task is closed, but I wanted to mention the other server http://www.eguidedog.net/WebSpeech.php based on free software, apparently.
